Needs From: Greater Mankato Area United Way

The Mankato Symphony Orchestra is a 65 year old nonprofit organization which serves the Greater Mankato Region by providing live performances and music education opportunities. We have an immediate opening for a board position and are also developing a list of applicants for future positions.

Board members serve three year terms and are expected to attend monthly board meetings and committee meetings as needed. You are expected to attend performances and special events, make a personal contribution at a level that is appropriate for you, and provide your fellow board members and MSO staff with your honest and thoughtful advice. A love of music is helpful but you do not need to be a classical music expert in order to serve. In return you will receive life changing musical experiences and the opportunity to share the joy of live music with your community.

We are particularly looking for a board member with event planning, marketing, PR, or fundraising skills at this time, but we are always open to hearing what you bring to the table and are looking for many other skills as well. Please contact us if you are interested in immediate or future board service.

Got an hour or two to spare? The Mankato Symphony is in need of people to hang posters and distribute brochures around town. We provide you with a list of approved locations and you can choose a route that is convenient for you.

We currently hang posters and distribute brochures in Mankato and North Mankato but are looking for residents in nearby towns as well.

Love music but prefer being behind the scenes? The Mankato Symphony Orchestra is a large organization with a small infrastructure and we need your help. We particularly need extra hands when it's time to send out our mailings-we have a lot of fans and we contact each and every one!

Our Office Needs:
ongoing clerical help-answer phones, take ticket orders, maintain our database, and help us get organized bulk mailings-stuff envelopes with a friend, or make a new one volunteering. Bulk mailings typically happen in July, August, September, and April. special skills-do you have a skill you'd like to share? Graphic design, marketing, fundraising, photography, etc.

Take tickets, greet the patrons, decorate, and serve refreshments in the lobby at our many concerts. This is a great way to attend a performance for free!
