Join Great River Greening for a volunteer prairie planting followed by a lunch and learn with GRG ecologist Brad Gordon and the MN DNR. Attendees will learn about restoring and managing private land easements, pollinator habitat, the surveys GRG is doing, and how to maintain and/or improve natural spaces.

Expect a flat but lengthy walk across a tilled field to get from the parking area to the meeting area.

Volunteer work will take place from 10-12, followed by lunch for volunteers from 12:15-12:45 and an educational walk from 12:45-2pm.

Site Background: The site was crop fields for many years prior to being enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program in the 1990s.  Smooth brome (introduced species) dominated the site, and in 2021 untreated herbicide tolerant corn was planted, followed by herbicide tolerant soybeans in 2022.  The site is currently soybean stubble (but not for much longer!).

This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we will provide the tools and training required.

There will also be lunch served to volunteers and extra water available, however, please bring your own reusable water bottle and any additional snack items you may need.

Once you have registered via GivePulse, organizers from Great River Greening will approve your registration and you will receive confirmation. You will continue to receive event reminders as the event nears.
