Purpose:
The role of a volunteer is serving as an ambassador of the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging and the Senior LinkAge Line and providing outreach tasks that support the organization in assisting older adults to thrive.
Tasks may include:
- Set up booth materials and/or provide outreach at community events such as health fairs and other community events.
- Gather materials for presentations or events.
- Prepare and present information to community groups in a clear and concise manner.
- Perform proofreading, note-taking, data entry or follow-up phone calls.
- Assist individuals in-person with completing forms for health care, prescription and other benefit programs.
- Assist in locating organizations and events that may benefit from the services of MNRAAA/SLL.
- Complete and submit volunteer time/expense form and other forms as indicated.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Report suspected Vulnerable Adult situations to the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) or Common Entry Point (CEP) within the appropriate timeframes. Inform supervisor of report.
Level of commitment is centered on the volunteer’s availability and task interests/preferences. Some tasks may be performed occasionally or on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications:
- Maintain confidentiality and effective listening and communication with staff and clients.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Willingness to learn and utilize office technology like Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint, projectors and web-based programs.

- Comfortable with public speaking, including presenting information to a variety of audiences and facilitating one-on-one, small group and large group events.
- Able to lift up to 10 lbs. (or ask for assistance)
- Sensitivity to working with older adults, people with disabilities and diverse populations
- May require a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and a reliable car.
- Willingness to learn about health insurance/Medicare and other related topics.
- Self-motivation, initiative, dependability, flexibility, attention to detail, and sound judgement when making decisions or seeking input and direction.

Physical and Mental Demands:
While performing tasks as a volunteer, it may be required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The volunteer is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The volunteer must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files, supplies, or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
