The Blue Earth County Community Farm is underway on its sixth growing season supporting area hunger assistance programs with fresh local produce. Ryan Idso-Weisz came on as the Farm Manager in 2015 to oversee management of the farm and associated logistics. Blue Earth County Sentence to Serve crews helped plant the garden located at Weagel Park off the Red Jacket Trail near Mount Kato with a wide variety of vegetable seeds and transplants, started by Valley Veggies and Drummers Garden Center.
Volunteers are needed to help throughout the 2017 growing season with maintenance and harvesting efforts. Volunteers are welcome to drop in on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. weather permitting. Groups of 6 or more may request other days/hours by calling Ryan at 507-382-1521.
This farm project is a collaboration between Farmamerica, University of Minnesota Extension and Blue Earth County. To learn more about the farm and volunteer opportunities, find the Blue Earth County Community Farm on Facebook.
